You know what is better than good makeup? Good makeup that's affordable! L.A. Girl is a brand I've always wanted to try, but since it wasn't sold anywhere near me, I never got the chance. Yeah, I could always order it online, but after S&H fees were added in, it wasn't really worth it to me anymore.. So when I found out our local Ulta was now carrying L.A. Girl, I immediately went and stalked up. Among some of the things I bought, were their Matte Flat Finish Pigment Glosses. Unfortunately, they only carried 12 of 16 shades. Nonetheless, I have a review for you on the 12 I was able to get! OKAY, I was so excited about these but....
I'm not going to lie, I wasn't very impressed. I wanted to love these soooo badly! I mean, the colors look beautiful, and they're so darn cheap! The first 4 colors (Fantasy, Dreamy, Fleur, and Bazaar) went on beautifully. In the swatch photo below, those 4 colors were put on in just one shot. I noticed the darker the color became, the more layers it required to achieve full coverage. Secret, Backstage, Black Currant, and Stunner(this one was the most sheer of all!), required about 3 THICK layers for that photo. Even then, some of the colors were still patchy, patchy, PATCHY! :(
The coverage isn't really what bothered me. I mean, for $5 I really don't mind having to do a few layers for a stunning lip color. What actually really ruined my feelings for these, is the texture. They glide on nicely, just like a gloss, but they don't stay silky like a gloss. They dry up to an opaque matte shade but become unbearably sticky. Also, I swear, it feels like they never set! They do stay on really well, you definitely can't just wipe the product off your lips. I had to go in with Micellar Water and really rub to remove all the gunk off my lips.
I HATE giving bad product reviews, I know people work really hard on creating these products.. But sometimes negative reviews are more helpful than positive ones! At the end of the day, the colors are gorgeous! But would I buy again or recommend? Nope. Maybe I'm just too picky?
Has anyone tried these and had better luck? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear your experience with these! :)
