My Hair Growth System

At some point in our lives, we have/will deal with hair loss. I'm sure you've all seen those cheesy infomercials about all of these miracle hair growth treatments that guarantee quick results. Let's be real though, most of those are a load of crap and don't actually work. Not to mention, they're usually pretty pricey!

I started losing my hair about 6 months after I had my son. I'm not sure if it was a super late postpartum thing, a side effect from having my gallbladder removed, or my body just adjusting to me not breastfeeding anymore(all of this was in the same week, and my hair was falling out by the next week). All I know is that I was losing my hair by the handfuls and I was not happy about it. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

See that big ball of hair? Without an ounce of exaggeration, that is how much hair I would clean off my comb EVERY SINGLE DAY. Yep, I'm dead serious. Yuck, I know. ๐Ÿ˜ท

I was so tempted to try one of those ridiculously expensive hair growth systems, but it was a few days after Christmas and all of my saved money from when I was working was gone with no hopes of making more unless I went back on my decision to be a stay at home mom. So what did I do? The obvious answer here: searched for hair growth tips on Pinterest. Duh.

After a ton of Pinterest research, I made a list of the things I wanted to try out and hoped for the best. Well, after three months, I couldn't have been any happier with the results! Look at my before & after pics! (I know, I look grungy. Sorry. ๐Ÿ˜“) That's a HUGE difference! I don't know why I didn't write this blog post right then and there. I was scrolling through my phone's old photos the other day and came across these and thought, "Why didn't I ever post about this?!".

Ugh.. I cringe just looking at that before shot. ๐Ÿ˜– Let's go ahead and get into what exactly I did to start growing more hair. And please keep in mind, I'm not a professional by any means. What worked for me, might not work for you. But hey, it's worth a shot!

First change...

I deep-condition my hair twice a week by doing a hair mask. I always alternate between these two DIY treatments.. Both contain this 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil by Shea Moisture.

  • Melt 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and massage into scalp and hair. Let sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo out.

  • Combine 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of honey, and 1 egg. Let sit for 20 minutes. Shampoo out.

Next change...

I switched over to a sulfate-free shampoo. This L'Oreal EverStrong Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner set has worked wonders on my hair. Sulfate-based shampoos have been proven to dry out hair, which inevitably leads to split ends and color stripping. This shampoo is sulfate-free, extra gentle on color-treated hair, and helps you achieve thicker, stronger hair.

When I use the shampoo, I rub it into my scalp in circular motions and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I rinse and do the same with conditioner.

Tip: Get them from Ulta when they're having the buy 1 get 1 free sale! Or click on the photo to see Amazon's latest deal on both!

Last change...

I started taking these Solaray Hair Nutrients. They contain Biotin, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, B Vitamins, Iron, Zinc, and a bunch of other nutrients that are great for you skin and hair. Now, I'm not going to say this is some magical pill that's going to put your scalp on overdrive and give you long locks in a week... BUT, I do believe these make a big difference and either way, they're good for you. You're supposed to take two capsules a day either with a meal or a glass of water. I usually just take them after I eat my breakfast every morning. I purchase mine here from Amazon, though I'm sure many nutrition shops carry them as well. :)

I know this doesn't seem like a huge discovery, but I swear, it has worked amazingly for me. Aside from these things, I started drinking a lot more water, ate a little more veggies, air-dried my hair, used the lowest setting on my straightener, and since I wasn't waking up to pump anymore, I was getting a lot more sleep! If you're suffering through hair loss, give these a try and remember to be patient! The results may not be instant, but they're definitely there. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿป
