Top 10 Foundations for Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, you know how frustrating it can be when wearing makeup. I mean, who wants to spend forever working on their makeup, just to have it melt off within the hour? Not only are you wasting your time, it feels like you're just wasting your products. WHICH MEANS YOU'RE WASTING MONEY! And you did NOT deal with rude people at work to just throw that hard earned cash in the trash!
I've found, tested, and listed some of the best foundations to suit your oily skin. Now, if you actually have dry skin, make sure to check out that post here.
So let's take a peek at my findings:
This foundation is very lightweight and feels like you aren't wearing anything on your skin. It's long lasting and has great buildable coverage. It doesn't sink into lines on my face, BUT I did notice that if you have a little peach fuzz, it WILL cling to it and look a bit cakey. That is the only big downside, other than that, the only other bad thing I can think of to say is that it dries faster than I'd like it to while applying. I found that using a damp beauty blender helps spread the product more efficiently without it drying up first. Aside from the cons, it still an amazing drugstore foundation. And hey, it's supposed to last 24 hours! 😳
This might defeat the purpose of this whole list, but this is hands down my favorite foundation for oily skin. This stuff is amazing! It gives you full coverage, stays put and gives you a beautiful matte finish for hours on end! Though it's a little more expensive, you only need to use a tiny bit. A little truly goes a long ways with this foundation! Of course like with anything, there is a con to this... It tends to dry quickly, so you need to work fast. I would recommend light dabs with a makeup brush and then promptly blending with a beauty blender.
The color selections are awesome for this, and the foundation is very full coverage but still feels very lightweight at the same time. I think it's similar to the coverage of the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation, but feels more like the Makeup Forever Matte Velvet Foundation. A little product definitely goes a LONG way with this! It withstands oil, sweat, and doesn't transfer onto anyone or anything. Because do you really want to hug someone and then realize have your face is imprinted on their clothing? Yeah.... Not attractive. 😖
If your skin is oily, stick foundations will be your best friend! This foundation by Nirvana is ideal for combination and oily skin. It is lightweight, easy-to-layer and delivers light-to-full-coverage. It leaves a semi-matte finish that gets better as it wears, and it actually looks skin and feels like there's barely anything there! It's sooo creamy and pigmented! This works amazingly to contour with as well! I've seen some people complain about it not blending well, but I think that's the case with most stick foundations. Use a damp beauty blender and you'll be set! 😊
This is very affordable and it lasts a good 8-10 hours, has great pigment, doesn't oxidize or look orange on the skin, and holds up really well on my oily skin. One thing though, it will give flashback in photos because it contains SPF. So you might want to avoid using this if you plan on using photos. Oh and another issue? It doesn't have the best coverage. So if you're hoping to cover acne scars, this alone won't do the trick.
6. Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation - $35.00 If you prefer a heavily-matted, super-duper full coverage foundation, this is for you. This foundation is perfect for those of you that have oily skin, fine lines, huge pores, redness, dark spots, acne scars, or an uneven skin tone. You only need to use a teeny, tiny, little bit to even out your complexion. It's crazy pigmented and covers any imperfections while leaving a flawless, striking finish. Besides today, temperatures here are reaching 98 degrees with 50%+ humidity this week, and my foundation hasn't budged! It doesn't smear, run, or melt off. It's truly a long wearing foundation!
7. Rimmel London Stay Matte Foundation - $5.49 If you want a soft formula that doesn’t cake up, you need this super affordable foundation! I was pleasantly surprised by this. I have sensitive skin and I didn't break out from this. It has very good long-lasting, medium-to-full coverage. It goes on smoothly and doesn't feel heavy on my skin. It blends easily and keeps your skin looking shine-free all day!
This foundation is the holy grail for ALL skin types! It has a super, creamy texture that glides on smoothly and covers any imperfections easily. It lasts all day and leaves your skin looking even-toned, moisturized, and with a soft, satin finish. It is medium coverage and leaves a natural finish.
9. MAC Studio Fix Fluid - $28.00 This foundation is oil-free, sweat-resistant, and humidity-resistant. It provides comfortable, long-wearing, 8-hour oil control! Applies, builds, and blends easily and evenly. It doesn't look heavy but if you're someone who doesn't like full coverage, you can definitely sheer the coverage out with a sponge. One issue I did notice after a few hours of wearing this, is that it transfers onto anything that touches my face. Maybe a better primer and setting powder could fix that issue? Besides that, this foundation is amazing and they have a great color range!
10. Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Foundation - $7.99 This creamy smooth formula is the perfect match for oily skin and gives it a smooth, even coverage with a NATURAL looking, matte finish. Seriously, with this foundation my face didn't feel cakey! My skin could still breathe! It's super light-weight and is light to medium coverage. Also, since it turns matte a little bit after you apply it, it gives you time to really blend it out without worrying about it drying out and setting.
*Edit: In the cover photo for this post I included the Milani 2-in-1 foundation but completely forgot to include it in this post until a reader pointed it out! I'm sorry! Here's my thoughts on it..
I LOVE THIS FOUNDATION! It's so affordable, and looks like skin even though it's full-coverage! It's super creamy and blends really well. It covers any dark circles or discoloration I may have. Only downside? It oxidizes. So even their lightest shade ends up being too dark for me. 😭💔 So I really only get to use this when I have a tan.. If you have darker skin though, you will absolutely fall in love with this!
And that's a wrap! Please keep in mind these aren't in any particular order! Let me know what your holy grail foundation is in the comments below. I really do hope this post helps all of you out with oily skin. Have a great rest of your week!!!
